Retail companies directory 2026

    Retail Companies in Morocco

Moroccan grocery research is a banner-and-hanout problem: Label’Vie runs Carrefour and Atacadao, Marjane is the state-linked hypermarket system, BIM taught small-box value, Aswak Assalam holds a different trolley, and the hanout still takes the weekday trip the dashboard files as residual.

This page lists banners and formats. Centrale Danone, Cosumar, Lesieur Cristal and Unilever Maghreb sit on the FMCG-companies Morocco file; they are not shopper missions. Label’Vie’s Carrefour is a full-range hyper and supermarket; Atacadao is the cash-and-carry and wholesale-club logic under the same listed group — two accounts, one holding company. Marjane Holding is the other hyper pole, with a public-adjacent ownership story that changes how listing conversations feel. BIM Morocco is hard discount, not a small Carrefour. Aswak Assalam is a separate supermarket name. Hanouts and traditional souk grocery still move oil, sugar, tea and sachet dairy in Casablanca’s popular quarters, Fès, Marrakech neighbourhoods and the towns a coastal hyper sample never reaches. Pharmacies take personal care. BioNixus fields each fascia as an account. Name the format and the city. “Retail in Morocco” is not a design.

    How the market is structured

Hyper, cash-and-carry, hard discount, supermarket, hanout, chemist

Casablanca, Rabat-Salé and Marrakech hold most organised density; Fès, Tangier and Agadir are the next strip; the interior still shops the hanout. Carrefour (Label’Vie) is the destination and weekly supermarket trip with imported and local ranging. Atacadao is a case-pack and HORECA-adjacent mission under the same group — interviewing “Label’Vie” as one shopper is a holding-company error. Marjane hypers are a different buyer and a different public-adjacent temperature. BIM is a short-range value trip with a private-label-heavy basket; pack architecture that wins in Carrefour will die on a BIM shelf. Aswak Assalam is a supermarket name that is neither Marjane nor Carrefour. Hanouts, restocked from wholesale depots and sometimes from Atacadao, take oil, sugar, tea and sachet dairy. Pharmacies take baby and personal care. Write the fascia and the city. A Casablanca Carrefour-only sample is a coastal hyper study.

    Local

Marjane, Aswak Assalam, hanouts, regional supermarkets and parapharmacie: Moroccan doors that are not a Turkish discounter or a French hyper export.

    Multinational

BIM as the international hard-discount format. Treat it as a system, not as a small Carrefour.

    • BIM Morocco

    Regional

Label’Vie’s Carrefour fascia as a Maghreb-executed European hyper. Atacadao is the cash-and-carry sibling, not a regional import from the Gulf.

    Banners, malls & e-commerce

Wholesale depots, traditional markets, ONSSA/trade licensing, Tangier cross-border ranging and chemist/parapharmacie adjacency.

    What is moving

What is moving retail in Morocco

    Label’Vie as two missions

Carrefour and Atacadao share a ticker and split the shopper. A holding-company sample will recommend a facing that exists in one format only.

    BIM as pack-architecture pressure

Hard discount changed case size and private label. Competitor work that skips BIM only studied full-range grocery.

    Marjane as a public-adjacent hyper

Listing temperature differs from Label’Vie. Design the buyer interview accordingly or you will hear a Carrefour answer in a Marjane room.

Hanout restock still deciding national units

Oil, sugar and tea still move through neighbourhood shops. A Casablanca hyper average will hide that volume.

    BioNixus fieldwork

How BioNixus studies retail companies in Morocco

The accounts above are the ones our field teams and analysts work with. What a brand team typically commissions from us in Morocco:
    • Facing audits in Carrefour, Atacadao, Marjane, BIM and Aswak Assalam on a named oil, dairy and laundry basket.
    • Hanout and wholesale-depot walks in a Casablanca popular quarter and in Fès on the same pack sizes.
    • Pharmacy and parapharmacie availability checks for personal-care SKUs against the grocery bay.
    • Tangier versus Casablanca ranging notes on imported SKUs to keep the north from being averaged into a coastal hyper story.

    Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which retail banners should a Morocco shopper study include?

Carrefour and Atacadao as two Label’Vie missions, Marjane, BIM, Aswak Assalam, hanouts, wholesale depots, pharmacies/parapharmacie, and a north or south independent cell if the claim is national.

How does this differ from FMCG companies in Morocco?

The FMCG page is manufacturers (Centrale Danone, Cosumar, Lesieur). This page is fascias and formats. Do not brief a factory as if it were a trolley.

    Is BIM just another supermarket?

No. It is hard discount. Pack architecture, private label and trip length differ from Carrefour and Marjane.

Can I treat Label’Vie as one account?

You can send one invoice. You cannot sample one shopper. Carrefour and Atacadao are different missions under one listing.

What does BioNixus field on Moroccan retail?

Fascia-level SKU audits across Carrefour, Atacadao, Marjane, BIM and Aswak Assalam; hanout and depot walks in Casablanca and Fès; chemist/parapharmacie adjacency; and a Tangier or Agadir split when the brief claims national.

Is the company order a league table?

No. Fascias sit under mission headings so a team can book the right store walk and the right listing meeting.
