Automotive distributors directory 2026
Automotive Distributors in Oman
Suhail Bahwan Automobiles remains a Muscat automotive name whose workshops and residual book still appear in fieldwork; the official Nissan appointment, announced as exclusive, is Al Hashar, with 3S points planned for Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, Sur and Ibri. Towell Auto Centre is the multi-brand alternative. Mohsin Haider Darwish holds Mercedes-Benz. Zubair’s General Automotive Company holds Mitsubishi. Omar Zawawi’s OMZEST and Dhofar Automotive take further volume and south-country retail. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion licences the trade on tejarah.gov.om. Royal Oman Police plates the car. Customs clears Sohar, Sultan Qaboos and the UAE land crossings — and those crossings matter, because a short drive from Al Ain or Dubai is how unofficial metal undercuts an official sticker in Buraimi. The list below is those houses and the state counters, not a badge directory.

How the market is structured
How a car is appointed, cleared and plated in the Sultanate
Local
Saud Bahwan on Toyota and Lexus, Al Hashar on Nissan and Infiniti, plus Suhail Bahwan’s remaining book, Towell, MHD, OMZEST, Zubair/GAC and the Dhofar houses.
- Saud Bahwan Group Automotive
- Suhail Bahwan Automobiles
- Al Hashar Automotive
- Towell Auto Centre
- Mohsin Haider Darwish Automotive
- Omar Zawawi Establishment (OMZEST) automotive
- Zubair Automotive Group
- Dhofar Automotive
- Shanfari Automotive
Multinational
No passenger-car plant of weight. Principals appoint an Omani house and fly in; they do not run a national sales company on the Turkish model.
Regional
UAE yards and Al Ain weekend trips function as a shadow regional distributor. Official houses spend as much time competing with that leak as with each other.
Dealer groups, leasing & aftermarket
MCIIP licences, Oman Customs, ROP plates, Bank Muscat windows, Sohar yards and the Buraimi traders that sit outside the exclusive-file story.
- General Automotive Company
- Bank Muscat auto finance windows
- National Bank of Oman auto windows
- WorldWide / Avis Oman
- Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion
- Oman Customs
- Royal Oman Police (traffic and licensing)
Market structure
Qurum is not the Sultanate
Prestige handovers and embassy households cluster in Muscat. Hilux, Patrol and contractor pickups live on the Batinah, in Nizwa and in Dhofar. A consideration set built in Qurum will over-weight Lexus and under-weight the working car.
Salalah after the khareef also turns over expatriate and tourist metal. Used prices there move on a different calendar from Ruwi yards, which is why a residual table that averages “Oman” is usually a Muscat table in disguise.
Unofficial UAE metal as a second channel
The exclusive house owns the warranty. The Buraimi trader owns the weekend price. Households often buy the price and then ask the official bay to honour a book the house never sold. That tension is the aftersales study we are asked for most often.
Customs and ROP can tighten the leak; they cannot close a land border that also carries legitimate family traffic. Launch plans that assume a sealed market will over-forecast official registrations in the northern governorates.
What is moving
What is moving the automotive market in Oman
Toyota, Nissan and the brother-name trap
Saud Bahwan still holds Toyota. Al Hashar now holds Nissan. Suhail Bahwan is the name older slides still print. A principal that bundles “the Bahwans” as one Japanese volume door will brief the wrong workshop.
Buraimi and UAE weekend leakage
Price gaps versus Al Ain and Dubai showrooms pull households across the border. Warranty and specification fights then return to the official Omani workshop, which is a research topic, not a footnote.
Sohar as a second port story
Batinah demand and industrial traffic have pulled official metal north. A Muscat-only stock picture understates what contractors on the coast can actually take delivery of this month.
Omanisation in the bay
Who is allowed to stand at the service reception changes training plans and customer-language research. Foreign principals that staff a launch with only expatriate product specialists mis-hear the household.
BioNixus fieldwork
How BioNixus studies automotive distributors and dealer groups in Oman
- Qurum versus Sohar paired mystery shops on Toyota and Nissan so Batinah stock is not inferred from a capital lounge.
- Buraimi intercepts that record why a household took a UAE invoice and whether they later asked an official Omani bay to honour it.
- Salalah khareef-season used-price collections that prevent a “national residual” from being a Ruwi average.
- Service-bay staffing and language checks against Omanisation rules, because the household hears the brand in the bay, not in the brochure.
Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Which house holds Toyota, and which holds Nissan?
Saud Bahwan Group Automotive holds Toyota and Lexus. Al Hashar Automotive is Nissan’s announced only authorised official distributor, also carrying Infiniti. Suhail Bahwan is the historic name older briefs still attach to Patrol.
Who holds Mercedes-Benz?
Mohsin Haider Darwish Automotive. It is not a Bahwan file and it is not a Dubai Gargash branch.
Why does Buraimi appear on a distributor page?
Because unofficial UAE-origin metal is the practical second channel in the north. Official houses lose sticker arguments there before they lose them in Muscat.
Which ministry licences the trade?
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, via the tejarah.gov.om portal. Royal Oman Police plates the car; Customs clears the consignment.
How does BioNixus research Omani dealer houses?
Muscat and Sohar paired shops; Salalah seasonal used-price work; Buraimi intercepts on UAE-origin metal; Bank Muscat instalment reconstructions; service-bay Omanisation and language checks.
Is this a ranking of Omani automotive families by size?
The Bahwan split is a structural fact, not a league table. A name is here because it holds an exclusive file, a satellite catchment, a crossing leak or a state stamp.
